Embeddable Profiles in pprof.me

Say goodbye to taking screenshots of flame graphs/profile data. Now you can embed the interactive profiles directly in any website.

April 05, 2023

Some 6 months ago, we did a major revamp of pprof.me, our free profile sharing service. Since then, we have been working on some new features to make it even more useful.

One of the most anticipated features was to be able to embed the interactive profile explorer to your websites. Today, we are excited to announce this feature!

Why Embed?

Ever since we launched pprof.me, we have been seeing pprof.me links are being shared on GitHub issues and other forums. Even we did this a lot in our previous blog posts as well. This is great, but we felt there is still a lot of room for improvements in the profile sharing experience.

One of those is to make it easier for people to interact with the profiles within the context of where it is shared. Embedding the profile explorer right into your websites, like how you can embed YouTube videos on your websites, is a major step towards that goal.

How to Embed?

Once you upload a profile to pprof.me, you can follow the steps to embed that profile to your website:

  1. Open the pprof.me URL of the profile to embed.
  2. Click on the Embed this profile to your website button in the top-right corner of the page. This will open a modal with the embed code.
    Getting the Embed code
  3. Copy the embed code and paste it in your website. That's it!

It's basically a minimal version of the pprof.me profile explorer. You can also use the width and height attributes to customize the size of the embed.

Below is a live demo of a profile embedded in this blog post. You can try interacting with it below.

What's Next?

We are excited to see how people use this feature, and we're also looking for other meaningful ways to embed profiles in other formats where iframe embeds are not allowed. Hit us up on Twitter or Discord if you have any ideas.
